Alfonso Sebastián

Harpsichord

The Spanish harpsichordist and conductor studied piano (Mª Pilar Armijo) and harpsichord (José Luis González Uriol) at the Zaragoza Conservatory of Music. He continued his training at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris, where he specialized in pianoforte (Patrick Cohën-Akenine) and orchestral conducting (Claire Levacher). He attended advanced courses with Jan Willem Jansen, Gustav Leonhardt, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Jacques Ogg, and Paul Badura-Skoda, among others. A member of the group Los Músicos de Su Alteza, Alfonso has also collaborated with La Tempestad, Al Ayre Español, the Baroque Orchestra of Seville, the Baroque Orchestra of the University of Salamanca, Ensemble Vigo430, and the Symphony Orchestra of Castile and León. As a soloist or in various ensembles, he has performed at important festivals and venues, including Ambronay, Utrecht, Fribourg, Vieux-Lyon, Sorèze, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, Erfurt, Daroca, Gijón, and Aranjuez. He has made several recordings: Villancicos by Juan de Aragüés, works for two harpsichords by Luigi Boccherini (with Silvia Márquez). In addition, with the Musicians of His Highness, he recorded Nebra's Miserere and A Divina Filoteia, as well as Christmas Songs by J.R. Samaniego, Nebra's opera O Amor Aumenta o Valor, and Italian oratorios by Carissimi and Luigi Rossi for the French label Alpha. Since 1999, Alfonso has been Professor of Harpsichord and Basso Continuo at the Professional Conservatory of Music in Salamanca.
